CHAPTER NUMBER SIX

“You mean to tell me that that handsome, hunky billionaire asked your butt out on a real date and you didn’t immediately say yes?! Drulisa...what in the world is wrong with you, honey?!”

Drulisa sighed. She shook her head. "Lexi Ann McNamara...I should’ve known that a dramatic response like that was gonna happen as soon as I let you know what Joshua had asked me."

"But you like him, Drulisa. I told you that the first day that you and he were here together in the donut shop. Why didn’t you just tell the man yes?"

“Because, Lexi...like I told him...I have to think about it.” She shrugged her shoulders. “Besides, I don’t want to seem desperate.”

Lexi shook her head. “You must not have understood what I said...he’s handsome, he’s funny, he’s decent and most important of all...he’s a freaking BILLIONAIRE!” Now it was Lexi’s turn to sigh. “Do you not understand how many women in this world would literally kill for an opportunity to go out on a date with Joshua Forrester?”

“I don’t care how many women want to go out with him. I don’t base my decision on who to date on money, Lexi. You should know me better than that, honey.”

Lexi finally lifted her lips in an apologetic smile. “You’re right, Leese. I think the billionaire part went to my head.” She giggled.

“Uh...yeah. Definitely.”

“Billionaire or not, I still think you should give him a chance. And that’s because like I said...I know you do like him.” She shrugged her shoulders. “Who knows. He might even be your Mr. Right.”

Drulisa snickered. “More like my Mr. Right Now.”

“Sometimes, having a ‘Mr. Right Now’ is better than sitting at home alone every weekend or just hanging out with your mom or bestie.”

“Okay, Lexi. Your point has been taken.”

Two Days Later:

Wednesday had finally arrived, and Drulisa still hadn't decided on whether not she'd take Joshua up on his date offer. However, she was leaning towards saying yes.

After all, she mused to herself, what would it really hurt if I went out on one date with the man? Hell, after this first date, he may decide himself that he doesn't want to do a second one. Maybe Lexi is right. Maybe I should just live a little. Maybe I should stop confining myself to the little box of existence that I seem trapped in.

An hour later, she had just pulled the last batch of cupcakes out of her oven for the day when her cell phone began ringing.

"Unknown caller," she whispered under her breath. Something instinctively told her that the person buzzing her cell was Joshua. After all, he’d said he was going to contact her to get her answer on Wednesday. And today was Wednesday.

She pulled the oven mitt off of her hand, picked up her phone and answered it. "Hello."

Joshua's lips turned up in a smile, just from hearing Drulisa's voice. The woman made him feel happy and surprisingly at peace on the inside. He didn't understand it himself. That's just how things were for him where she was concerned.
